Crowbar frontman Kirk Windstein has been lots busy outdoors the NOLA sludge band, largely with his upcoming solo album and the primary new Down materials in over a decade.

Down – the band that includes Windstein and fellow guitarist Pepper Keenan (Corrosion Of Conformity), vocalist Phil Anselmo (Pantera), bassist Patrick Bruders (Saint Vitus, ex-Crowbar), and drummer Jimmy Bower (Eyehategod) – has been exhausting at work on the follow-up to their 2014 EP Down IV – Half 2.

In response to Windstein in a latest interview with Concrete Spew, new Down is beginning to sound so much like outdated Down – particularly their 1995 debut album NOLA.

“It simply seems like Down,” stated Windstein. “I imply, it sounds refreshing as a result of we’ve not finished it in so lengthy, gotten along with me and the blokes and finished it in — fuck — 12 years or one thing. So it seems like Down, I feel, to me, it sounds extra old-school Down. And the rationale I say that’s I feel we bought to a degree the place… Like, the NOLA report is so easy, and it simply wrote itself; it was so easy. And that is how that is coming about, which is nice.

“We’re not overthinking it. We’re not making an attempt to make issues too advanced. Phillip‘s not making an attempt to write down so many lyrics and issues. We simply type of bought away — I hate to say ‘bought away’, ‘trigger something we do is Down, however, to me, we type of bought a little bit bit… We wanted to return and have a look at one another and simply go, ‘Let’s simply get in a room and do it like we did from the start.’ And that is what it feels prefer to me. It is very magical. The concepts and the working collectively, simply bounce off of each other, it is a pure factor.”
