“Penguins do not fly!” Altitude Movies has revealed the official trailer for The Flight of Bryan, telling the true story of the individuals who invented a human-powered flying machine. This hybrid doc combines actual doc footage with recreations. The Flight of Bryan is a “genre-busting story” of how unemployed novice bike owner, Bryan Allen, and father of three, Paul MacCready, with a rag tag crew set out on the death-defying quest to untangle the thriller of human powered flight and in doing so win probably the most coveted prize in aviation (they did this in 1977 flying the Gossamer Condor). Combining a exceptional trove of lately found 16mm documentary footage in an imaginative and ground-breaking means with scripted scenes, private testimony & 4th-wall-busting encounters between the true Bryan and the actors bringing his story to life, this uplifting story of ingenuity, braveness and willpower, challenges us to query the assumptions we make about society’s outliers and reminds us of how the tales we inform might help us to know and maybe change the world.
