Founding Vio-Lence guitarist Phil Demmel stop the band earlier this yr. Demmel has since discovered success with Kerry King‘s solo band and his new group Class 7, and remains to be the on-call dude for each steel band beneath the solar that wants a stay guitarist.
However why did Demmel stop the band he helped present in 1985? In a brand new interview with 107.7 The Bone, Demmel mentioned the band’s turnover price made it not the identical band it as soon as was. For these unaware, Vio-Lence is at the moment longtime vocalist Sean Killian and bassist Christian Olde Wolbers, who joined in 2020, alongside a bunch of stay members.
“The Vio-Lence factor simply turned… [Drummer] Perry [Strickland] left, or Perry‘s not within the band, and it simply turned — and I like Christian — it simply turned one thing not acquainted anymore. And it hit me after we performed the Whisky [in February 2023] and it was Adrian [Aguilar], the drummer’s first present. And we had been having this child Miles Dimitri Baker, who performs in Ice Nine Kills proper now, come down, and he was gonna be my fill-in [for some dates]. And so he was gonna play on a track or two.
“And I present as much as the present and I stroll backstage and, man, there was 50 individuals backstage and I knew possibly [the guys in] the band and a few different individuals. It was simply, like, ‘Man, this is not my residence anymore. This does not really feel like residence.’ And no slight towards the dudes, ‘trigger I beloved taking part in with Adrian, I beloved taking part in with Christian, and Ira [Black, ex-Vio-Lence guitarist] actually labored onerous for the band and was an enormous — he was an enormous fighter for the band. He labored onerous. He cared lots. Ira was a really productive member of Vio-Lence.
“However with all the pieces that was taking place, it was simply time for me to go… The Kerry [King] factor was firing up, the Class 7 factor was firing up, and [I] simply [did] not [want to] let that be a distraction from [the other stuff I was doing].”
Demmel added: “I beloved the [2022] Vio-Lence EP [Let The World Burn] that I wrote, and me and Sean wrote and we recorded with the dudes. And I am tremendous pleased with these songs and the best way that the recording got here out. [Producer and engineer] Juan [Urteaga] did an amazing job.”
In a later remark, Demmel solidified his opinion saying “it simply wasn’t the factor that I began in highschool, and the songs which means the identical.” Which is sensible – for those who’re not gonna be comfortable within the band you are in, why proceed to do it?”
