The WB formally canceled Angel after sequence creator Joss Whedon requested the studio for an early renewal. Collection producer David Fury mentioned the scenario throughout an interview again in 2004. He referred to as the scenario between Whedon and the community head, Jordan Levin, a tactical “energy play.”
“There was an influence play that occurred that simply didn’t fall out the best way they wished it to. We wished to get an early pick-up, we didn’t. Suffice it to say that Joss Whedon might have unintentionally canceled his personal sequence by asking for what some thought-about to be an excessive amount of.
