President-elect Trump introduced on Wednesday that he’s tapping Leandro Rizzuto Jr., former Conair government and consul to Bermuda, to be an envoy for the Group of American States.
“It provides me nice pleasure to announce Leandro Rizzuto as Ambassador to the Group of American States (OAS),” Trump wrote in a Fact Social publish on Wednesday.
“For a few years, Lee efficiently ran and grew Conair into one of the vital profitable firms in the USA,” Trump continued. “Moreover, Lee served with distinction as U.S. Consul Common to Bermuda.”
“Lee can be implausible as our subsequent Ambassador to the OAS!” he added.
The aim of the OAS is “to strengthen peace and safety within the hemisphere; promote consultant democracy; make sure the peaceable settlement of disputes amongst members,” according to its website.
Rizzuto, a longtime Trump donor, was tapped in 2020 to be the principal officer on the US Consulate Common in Bermuda – a task that didn’t require Senate affirmation.
His earlier nomination in 2018 as ambassador to Barbados was stalled within the Senate Overseas Relations Committee, and he was not renominated for the publish. Rizzuto confronted scrutiny on the time following a CNN report that discovered Rizzuto shared unfounded conspiracy theories about Trump’s political opponents throughout the 2016 presidential marketing campaign.
