Pauline Herr is at her most weak in her new single, “Bleeding Out,” a cyberpunkian lullaby for the chronically overthinking.
Crackling with electrical rigidity, the beautiful monitor is out now by way of SLANDER’s Heaven Sent label. True to type, Herr’s lyrics minimize deep like daggers, carving out an area between self-destruction and rebirth.
“Liminal, I am caught within the house between / Self-critical, Yeah I am going to attempt to be affected person / I am bleeding out,” she belts.
Because the monitor reaches its climax, Herr’s promise to “be alright” feels much less like hope and extra like a battle cry. In the meantime, her intense manufacturing kilos like a relentless coronary heart monitor, monitoring the important indicators of a thoughts on the brink. However it leaps off the cliff on the drop, a darkish and disorienting four-on-the-floor sequence that transports us to a purgatorial dancefloor the place demons and willpower collide.
Herr says she started recording the deeply private monitor throughout a solo retreat to Joshua Tree.
“I forgot my microphone at dwelling, so I recorded the entire vocal on my MacBook Professional,” she explains. “There was a lot emotion within the authentic takes that I ended up leaving these in for the ultimate model.”
